When I worked as a children’s ministry coordinator at my local church, our director and I were on the hunt for Gospel-centered lessons for our 1–3-year-old classrooms. We wanted to give our littlest learners something deeper than childcare and snack time (while valuable)—we wanted them to also begin learning the big truths of our faith.

As our toddlers were learning to speak, play, and explore the world, we wanted to fill their minds with the basics of who God is—what the Bible is, what prayer means, who Jesus is, and how the Holy Spirit helps us.

After searching and coming up short, we decided I would write our own lessons. What started as a few Sunday school units eventually became a full year of lessons—50 in total—one for every Sunday of the year (except Mother’s and Father’s Day).

Now, fast forward a few years. I’m a stay-at-home mom to three little ones (ages 6 months, 2, and 4), and we still use these same lessons in our home each week. It’s been so special to watch my children grow in their understanding of God’s Word—right from the kitchen table. The lessons are flexible enough to work at home or in church, and simple enough that both toddlers and preschoolers can engage and participate.

How to Use This Toddler Bible Curriculum at Home (Simple Weekly Plan)

These lessons can be used in any variety of ways. You can pick and choose specific themes to mix and match, or even specific crafts from each lesson. You could scatter them throughout your day, or sit and do an entire lesson in one sitting. Ideally, these lessons take about 20-30 minutes to complete. I have found the easiest time to do this is either right after breakfast, or during our mid-morning snack time. I’ll gather the kids around the table for their snack, read aloud the prayer provided, read the scripture passage or memory verse, and then jump right into game time. We’ll complete the activity together with lots of laughter and fun, then settle down again for their craft and closing discussion. The lessons have a good balance of sitting quietly to listen, getting up to move around, and then sitting again to work on fine motor developing craft time. They’re designed to be age-appropriate, but also giving lots of room for flexibility as we know toddlers and preschoolers vary greatly in their attention, ability, and development.
